Christine Ladd Franklin

Christine Ladd Franklin adalah seorang tokoh perempuan dalam bidang psikologi dan logika dari Amerika Serikat pada abad 19-20.[1] Dia adalah ahli metematika, dan beralih ke psikologi dengan karya yang sangat terkenal, yaitu visi warna yang berlandaskan teori evolusi.

Riwayat singkat

Dia dilahirkan pada 1 Desember 1847 dan meninggal pada 1930. Dia belajar di New Vassar College pada tahun 1869. Lalu pada tahun 1882 dia tertarik bidang matematika dan menyelesaikan gelar doktornya di Universitas Johns Hopkins. Namun saat itu masih terjadi deskriminasi terhadap para ilmuwan perempuan, sehingga gelarnya tidak terlalu diakui. Walau demikian pada tahun 1987 dia mendapat gelar penghormatan dari Vassar, sekolahnya yang dulu. Hingga pada tahun 1926, pada usianya yang ke 44 dia mendapat pengakuan secara resmi dari Universitas Johns Hopkins saat sudah diakuinya para ahli perempuan. Dia menikah dengan seorang Profesor Ahli metematika di Universitas itu, Fabian Franklin pada tahun 1882. Sementara suaminya tinggal di Jerman, dia hijrah ke Amerika untuk belajar psikologi, bidang baru yang diminatinya. Walaupun pada tahun 1891 dia kurang diakui di universitas Jerman, tetapi dia bergabung di Georg E. Mullers laboratory untuk mengembangkan ilmunya. Tapi sebelumnya dia sudah menerbitkan tentang pandangan tentang warna (color vision) pada tahun 1882. Jadi teori tentang warna sudah dia geluti dari sebelum menginggalkan Eropa.

Pada prinsipnya, Teori warna yang dikemukakan adalah rasa dari warna satu yang merupakan perpaduan warna-warna yang lain.[2] Dan hal ini kurang diindentifikasi oleh para ahli sebelumnya.[2] Dia mengungkapkan bahwa ada enam kemungkinan sebuah warna adalah merupakan campuran dari warna-warnya lain yang berbeda itu.[2]

Pada tahun 1892 dia mempresentasikan teorinya tentang visi warna di London pada acara Kongres Internasional Psikologi Pengalaman. Dengan teori ini dia mengajar di Universitas Columbia di Amerika dari tahun 1910 hingga kematiannya tahun 1930.
