Chloé Zhao (lahir 31 Maret 1982)[1] merupakan seorang sutradara, produser dan penulis naskah Tiongkok. Ia dikenal sebagai sutradara film Amerika Serikat Songs My Brothers Taught Me (2015), The Rider (2017) dan Nomadland (2020).

Latar belakang

Chloé Zhao lahir dengan nama kecil Zhao Ting dan besar di Beijing, Tiongkok, dari pasangan Zhao Yuji, mantan manajer umum sebuah perusahaan baja milik negara.[2][3] Orang tuanya kemudian berpisah dan ayahnya menikah lagi dengan aktris Song Dandan. Saat ia masih remaja, ia sangat memberontak dan tertarik pada pengaruh dari budaya populer Barat.[4] Ia menempuh pendidikan di sekolah asrama di London sebelum pindah ke Los Angeles untuk menyelesaikan sekolah menengah.[5] Ia belajar di Mount Holyoke College dan mendapatkan gelar sarjana dalam ilmu politik.[6] Ia memiliki pekerjaan sampingan sebagai promotor acara, real estate dan barista sebelum belajar produksi film di Tisch School of the Arts Universitas New York.[2][7]

Saat ini, ia menetap di California, Amerika Serikat.[2]
