Chilpancingo adalah ibu kota dan kota terbesar kedua di negara bagian Guerrero, Meksiko. Pada tahun 2010 berpenduduk 187.251 jiwa. Kotamadya ini memiliki luas 2.338,4 km2 (902,9 sq mi) di bagian selatan-tengah negara bagian, terletak di pegunungan Sierra Madre del Sur, di tepi Sungai Huacapa.[1] Kota ini berada di Jalan Raya Federal Meksiko 95 yang menghubungkan Acapulco ke Mexico City. Bandara ini dilayani oleh Bandara Nasional Chilpancingo, yang merupakan salah satu dari lima bandara di negara bagian tersebut.

Pada tahun 1960, kota memasuki krisis sosial yang parah dengan dimulainya gerakan mahasiswa populer di Universitas Otonom Guerrero, protes yang menyebabkan pemogokan umum di institusi dan kemudian menyerbu berbagai kekuatan dan sektor sosial kota dan negara. Tujuan utamanya adalah untuk mengurangi kekuasaan pemerintah negara bagian dan mencari otonomi untuk perguruan tinggi. Pada tanggal 27 April 2009, gempa bumi dengan kekuatan 5,6 berpusat di dekat Chilpancingo.[2]
