Chemical Bank adalah Bank dari Amerika Serikat yang dahulu berkantor pusat di New York City dari tahun 1824 hingga 1996. Chemical bank pernah menjadi bank terbesar ketiga di AS pada tahun 1995 dengan aset sekitar $ 182,9 miliar dan lebih dari 39.000 karyawan di seluruh dunia.[1]
Dimulai pada 1920 dan meningkat pada 1980-an hingga 1990-an, Chemical Bank adalah konsolidasi utama industri perbankan Amerika serikat dengan mengakuisisi Chase Manhattan Bank, Manufacturing Hanover, Texas Commerce Bank dan Corn Exchange Bank.
Chemical Bank adalah merupakan anak perusahaan utama dari sebuah holding perusahaan jasa keuangan yaitu Chemical Banking Corporation. Sebelum merger dengan Chase Manhattan Bank pada akhir tahun 1995, Chemical adalah bank terbesar ketiga di Amerika Serikat dengan total aset sebesar $ 182,9 miliar.
Perusahaan ini berdiri pada tahun 1823 dengan awalnya berdiri sebagai "New York Chemical Manufacturing Company", sebuah perusahaan manufaktur kimia yang memproduksi Tembaga(II) sulfat, Tawas, Asam nitrat, Kapur barus, kalium nitrat, Bahan pewarna dan obat-obatan. perusahaan ini didirikan oleh Balthazar P. Melick bersama dengan direktur awal perusahaan lainya yaitu John C. Morrison, Mark Spenser, Gerardus Post, James Jenkins, William A. Seely, William Stebbins,[2] dan seorang lagi pemegang saham awal terbesar perusahaan tetapi tidak masuk kedalam jajaran direktur, yaitu Joseph Sampson.[2] Sebelum beralih sepenuhnya sebagai perusahaan jasa keuangan, Chemical Bank berusaha mendapatkan status State bank dari badan legislatif negara bagian New York dengan menggunakan izin perusahaan kimia ini.[3] Tetapi kemudian pada tahun 1820 pihak direktur perusahaan bersepakat akan lebih mudah bagi perusahaan ini mendapatkan status state bank jika mengubah jenis usahanya dari manufaktur kimia menjadi perusahaan jasa keuangan dan kemudian Balthazar Melick diangkat sebagai presiden bank yang pertama dengan layanan keuangan yang pertama melayani para pedagang-pedagang di wilayah New York City.[4]
