Cetologi

Cetologi adalah bidang studi yang mengenai cetacea yang mencakup paus, lumba-lumba dan pesut.^[1]

Studi ini merupakan cabang dari ilmu mamalia laut yang membahas setidaknya 80 spesies paus, lumba-lumba dan pesut di ordo ilmiah Cetacea. Istilah ini dibuat pada pertengahan abad ke-19 dari kata bahasa Yunani "cetus" (paus) dan akhiran "-ology" ("studi, ilmu")^[2]. Cetolog, sebutan untuk orang yang membelajari bidang ini, bekerja untuk memahami evolusi, distribusi, perliaku, morfologi, dinamika komunitas dan banyak topik lainnya mengenai Cetacea.
