Nassarius, atau siput boy-boy, adalah genus siput laut berukuran kecil hingga sedang, moluska gastropoda laut dalam famili Nassariidae . ^[1] Mereka adalah pemakan bangkai.

Ekologi

Distribusi dan habitat

Spesies dalam genus ini terdapat di seluruh dunia. Boy-boy biasanya hidup di dataran lumpur atau dataran pasir, secara intertidal atau subtidal.

Kebiasaan hidup

Sebagian besar spesies Nassarius adalah pemakan bangkai yang sangat aktif, memakan kepiting dan bangkai seperti ikan mati, dll. Mereka sering menggali ke dalam substrat laut dan kemudian menunggu hanya dengan sifonnya yang menonjol, sampai mereka mencium bau makanan di dekatnya.

Deskripsi cangkang

Cangkang spesies dalam genus ini memiliki puncak cyrtoconoid yang relatif tinggi (mendekati bentuk kerucut tetapi dengan sisi cembung) dan takik siphonal .

(Digambarkan sebagai Nassa ) Mata terletak di tengah tentakel. Gigi lingualnya melengkung dan berpetinasi. Uncini menunjukkan gigi basal. Kakinya besar, melebar dan bercabang dua di ujung posteriornya.

Operkulum berbentuk bulat telur, tepinya bergerigi atau seluruhnya.

Cangkangnya berbentuk bulat telur dan ventrikel. Lingkaran tubuh dipahat dengan berbagai cara. Bukaannya berbentuk bulat telur, dengan kanal anterior terpotong pendek. Bibir bagian dalam halus, seringkali tersebar luas dengan enamel, dengan lapisan posterior yang kasar atau anyaman dentiform yang tumpul. Bibir luarnya bergerigi, bagian dalamnya berkerut. ^[3]
