Blondi (1941 - 30 April 1945)^{[catatan 1]}^[1]^[2] adalah anjing gembala Jerman peliharaan Adolf Hitler yang diberikan padanya sebagai hadiah oleh Martin Bormann pada tahun 1941.^[3]^[4] Blondi tetap bersama Hitler setelah kepindahannya ke Führerbunker, yang berlokasi di bawah kebun Kanselir Reich pada tanggal 16 Januari 1945.^[5] Pada bulan Maret 1945,^[6]^[7] Blondi melahirkan lima anak setelah berhubungan dengan anjing gembala Jerman milik Gerdy Troost yang bernama Harras. Hitler memberi nama salah satu anak anjing tersebut "Wolf", julukan favoritnya dan arti dari nama pertamanya sendiri, Adolf (serigala, wolf).^[8] Seekor anak Blondi diberikan kepada adik Eva Braun, Gretl, dan Eva mengirimkan Gretl surat yang berisi foto blondi dan tiga ekor anak-anaknya.^[9]

Hitler konon sangat menyukai Blondi. Ia menjaga Blondi tetap di sisinya dan membiarkannya tidur di kamarnya dalam bunker. Kasih sayang ini tidak dimiliki oleh Eva Braun, yang lebih menyukai dua anjing Terrier Skotlandia bernama Negus dan Stasi (atau Katuschka).^[10]^[11] Menurut sekretaris Hitler (Traudl Junge), Eva membenci Blondi dan sering menendangnya di bawah meja makan.^[12]

Pada bulan Mei 1942, Hitler kembali membeli seekor Anjing gembala Jerman muda "dari seorang pejabat kecil di kantor pos di Ingolstadt" untuk menemani Blondi.^[13] Hitler menamainya Bella.^[14] Sebelum memelihara Blondi, Hitler pernah memiliki dua ekor anjing gembala Jerman bernama Blonda. Dalam beberapa foto yang diambil selama tahun 1930-an, Blonda muda secara keliru sering dianggap sebagai Blondi.^[15]

Blondi turut berperan dalam propaganda Nazi. Menggambarkan Hitler sebagai seorang penyayang binatang merupakan aspek penting dalam propaganda. Anjing seperti Blondi yang didambakan sebagai "germanischer Urhund", tumbuh dengan sangat modis selama masa Reich Ketiga.^[16]

Kematian

Pada tanggal 29 April 1945, Hitler mengetahui bahwa sekutunya Benito Mussolini telah dieksekusi oleh partisan Italia. Hal ini bersamaan dengan Tentara Soviet yang mulai mendekati lokasi persembunyiannya. Hitler kemudian bertekad untuk tidak akan membiarkan dirinya atau istrinya ditangkap. Sore itu, Hitler menyatakan keraguannya terhadap efek kapsul sianida yang dia terima dari Heinrich Himmler.^[17] Untuk membuktikan efek dari kapsul tersebut, Hitler memerintahkan Dr. Werner Haase untuk mengujinya pada anjingnya Blondi, dan sebagai hasilnya, Blondi meninggal seketika.^[18]

Menurut sebuah laporan yang ditujukan untuk Joseph Stalin dan berdasarkan laporan saksi mata, penjaga anjing Hitler, Feldwebel Fritz Tornow, mengambil anak-anak Blondi dan menembak mereka di taman kompleks bunker pada tanggal 30 April, setelah Hitler dan Eva memutuskan untuk bunuh diri. Dia juga membunuh dua anjing peliharaan Eva Braun. Tornow kemudian ditangkap oleh tentara Sekutu.^[19] Perawat Hitler, Erna Flegel, mengatakan pada tahun 2005 bahwa kematian Blondi lebih mempengaruhi orang-orang di bunker daripada bunuh diri Eva Braun.^[20] Setelah Pertempuran Berlin berakhir, jasad Hitler, Braun, dan dua anjing (yang dianggap sebagai Blondi dan anaknya) ditemukan di bunker oleh tentara SMERSH, badan intelijen Uni Soviet.^[21]^[22]

Dalam Dog of Death, episode kesembilan belas dari The Simpsons musim ketiga, Homer mengatakan pada Bart bahwa anjing Santa Simpson, Little Helper, akan pergi ke Surga Anjing.
