"Bleeding Love" merupakan lagu pop balada dengan pengaruh R&B yang diset dalam tempo 104 bpm, kunci F Mayor dan 4/4. Versi album berdurasi empat menit dua puluh empat detik, sedangkan untuk versi radio adalah empat menit satu detik. Vokal Leona Lewis berkisar antara 1 1/2 oktaf, terendah D4 pada verse dan A5 di reff terakhir.

Lagu ini menceritakan tentang Leona sebagai karakter wanita yang "dibutakan" oleh cinta bersama teman prianya. Banyak teman-teman yang tidak menyetujui hubungan mereka, dengan alasan secara emosional, wanita disakiti hatinya. Tetapi, si wanita tersebut tetap mencintainya dan menerima semua kesakitan yang ada.

"Bleeding Love" dikonstruksi dengan pola verse-chorus-bridge. Lagu ini dibangun oleh organ gereja sampai dengan bridgenya, dengan suara senar gitar sintesis, perkusi blok kayu dan drum yang didistorsikan.

Video versi internasional disutradarai oleh Melina Matsoukas di Los Angeles. Plot-plot video musik disusun di sebuah apartemen dan menceritakan tentang 4 hubungan dengan kondisi yang berbeda-beda. Adapun adegan Leona bernyanyi dengan memakai gaun kristal perancang Italia, Dolce & Gabbana, seberat 18 kg dan mencapai angka 100.000 pound sterling. Pertama kali video ditampilkan di Youtube tanggal 17 Oktober 2007. Sampai tanggal 12 Februari 2009, video "Bleeding Love" telah ditonton sebanyak 82.128.871 kali. Untuk video musik "Bleeding Love" versi AS, disutradarai oleh Jesse Terrero di New York City. Video musik tersebut menampilkan Nicholas Lemons sebagai kekasih dari Leona. Mereka, di video, sedang berargumentasi. Leona ingin meminta maaf pada kekasihnya. Dia mengejarnya ke apartemennya tetapi melihat kekasihnya telah pergi.
