Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton (11 Desember 1926 – 25 Juli 1984) adalah seorang penyanyi dan penulis lagu rhythm-and-blues Amerika. Ia mula-mula mereka lagu Leiber dan Stoller "Hound Dog", pada 1952,[1] yang menjadi hit terbesarnya, bertahan tujuh pekan di peringkat satu dalam tangga lagu R&B Billboard pada 1953[2] dan terjual hampir lebih dari dua juta salinan.[3] Namun, kesuksesannya terbayangi pada tiga tahun kemudian, saat Elvis Presley merekam versi yang lebih populer dari "Hound Dog".[4] Selain itu, lagu Thornton "Ball 'n' Chain" (ditulis pada 1961 namun tak dirilis sampai 1968) memiliki dampak yang lebih besar saat ditampilkan dan direkam oleh Janis Joplin dari tahun 1967.
