Bhavyaviveka adalah pendiri Svatantrika yang merupakan tradisi sekolah Madhyamaka agama Buddha.^[1] Bhavyaviveka juga adalah salah satu ahli logika Buddhis pertama yang memperkenalkan silogisme formal .^[1] Bhavyaviveka dilahirkan dari timur Magadha di India dari keluarga Ksatria.^[1] Ia ditahbiskan oleh Nagarjuna.^[1] Bhavya menulis sebuah karya independen atas Madhyamaka berjudul Madhyamakahrdaya-Karika.^[1] Prajñāpradīpa adalah komentar Bhavyaviveka's atas Mūlamadhyamakakārikā Nagarjuna's dalam bahasa Sanskerta.^[1] Setelah kematian Buddhapalita, Bhavyaviveka menulis sebuah tulisan yang mengandalkan pada ajaran Nagarjuna.^[1] Teks ini meletakkan dasar bagi sekolah Svatantrika agama Buddha.^[2] Dalam tradisi, Svatantrika digunakan untuk menetapkan bahwa fenomena dharma tidak memiliki sifat-diri, dan argumen lebih lanjut untuk membuktikan bahwa sifat sejati dari semua fenomena adalah kekosongan.^[2] Sekolah ini berbeda dari tradisi Prasangika dominan yang menekankan bahwa tindakan terakhir adalah menahan diri dari membuat pernyataan apapun tentang sifat sebenarnya dari fenomena.^[2] Sebuah ketidakjujuran dialektis diresmikan oleh Bhavya.^[2] Bhavya berpendapat bahwa argumen konsekuensi Buddhapalita tidak berada pada pijakan yang sama dengan Nagarjuna.^[2]
