Bendungan Zipingpu

Bendungan Zipingpu, di utara kota Dujiangyan.

Bendungan Zipingpu (紫坪铺水利枢纽) adalah bendungan urugan yang ada di Sungai Min, dekat kota Dujiangyan, Provinsi Sichuan, Tiongkok Barat Daya.[1] Bendungan ini memiliki empat generator listrik dengan kapasitas total pembangkit tenaga listrik 760 Megawatt.[2] Konstruksi dimulai pada tahun 2001 dan selesai pada akhir tahun 2006. Situs bendungan ini sudah dikembangkan di masa Shu Han, hampir 2.000 tahun yang lalu.

Gempa bumi Sichuan 2008 dengan skala 7,9 Richter menyebabkan beberapa kerusakan pada bendungan, temboknya retak dan pecah-pecah. Bendungan harus secara bertahap dikeringkan guna dilakukan pekerjaan konsolidasi.[3][4]

Bendungan ini terletak hanya beberapa kilometer dari episentrum gempa Sichuan 2008, dan hanya beberapa ratus meter dari patahan. Beberapa ahli geologi berhipotesis bahwa bongkar muat kerak yang terjadi di bawah bendungan yang disebabkan oleh perubahan ketinggian air bendungan, menjadi pemicu terjadinya gempa bumi. Namun, hipotesis ini belum dapat dibuktikan.[5][6][7]
