Bendung Karangtalun atau biasa disebut sebagai Bendung Ancol, adalah sebuah bendung yang terletak di perbatasan antara Magelang, Jawa Tengah dan Kulon Progo, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Bendung ini adalah salah satu bendung tertua di Indonesia, karena telah dibangun pada tahun 1909.[1] Bendung ini terletak tidak jauh dari makam Nyi Ageng Serang dan kebun buah naga milik warga.[2] [3]

Sejarah

Bendung Ancol dibangun pada masa pemerintahan Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono VIII untuk mengairi kebun-kebun tebu yang tersebar di Sleman dan Bantul melalui Selokan Van der Wijck. Pada masa pemerintahan Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX, tepatnya pada tahun 1942, Jepang menggalakkan romusha di Indonesia untuk mengeksploitasi sumber daya alam maupun untuk membangun sarana dan prasarana guna mendukung upaya perang Jepang melawan Sekutu di Pasifik.Sri Sultan lalu meminta agar penduduk Jogja tidak dikerahkan dalam romusha, tetapi cukup dikerahkan untuk membangun sebuah kanal irigasi guna menghubungkan Sungai Progo dengan Sungai Opak yang kemudian dikenal dengan nama Kanal Yoshiro. Kanal tersebut kini dikenal dengan nama Selokan Mataram dan menjadi salah satu dari tiga saluran irigasi primer di Daerah Irigasi Karangtalun.
