Beetlebum adalah lagu dari grup musik rock asal Inggris, Blur. Lagu ini dirilis menjadi singel utama dari album studio kelima eponim mereka, Blur. Singel ini pada debutnya berada di posisi satu di UK Singles Chart, menjadi singel kedua Blur yang mencapai posisi tersebut (setelah "Country House").[1][2]

Lagu

Damon Albarn telah mengaku bahwa lagu ini adalah tentang heroin dan pengalaman memakai narkoba dengan mantan pacarnya, Justine Frischmann dari Elastica.[3] Dalam film dokumenter Blur, No Distance Left to Run, Albarn mengonfirmasi gagasan ini pada film. Albarn telah menyatakan dalam sebuah wawancara dengan MTV bahwa lagu ini menggambarkan emosi yang rumit, semacam 'kantuk' dan semacam 'seksi'.[4]

Video musik

Video musik lagu ini disutradarai oleh Sophie Muller,[5] dan syuting di Islington, London, pada tanggal 14 Desember 1996.[4] Video ini merupakan produksi yang relatif sederhana, menggabungkan Blur yang memainkan lagu di sebuah kamar di sebuah gedung tinggi dengan zoom-out yang dihasilkan komputer dari set yang menunjukkan bumi di pusat pola kaleidoskop. Perlu dicatat, rokok Alex James dan coca-cola Dave Rowntree disensor. Pada akhir video, kamera zoom out dari ruang dan bangunan dan menunjukkan daerah sekitarnya, yang berakhir dengan gambar dari langit London.
