Bayi adalah anak manusia yang belum lama lahir.[1] Dalam konteks kedokteran, bayi yang baru berusia di bawah 28 hari disebut neonata (dari bahasa latin neonatus, "yang baru dilahirkan").[2] Istilah bayi prematur dan bayi postmatur merujuk kepada bayi yang dilahirkan dengan durasi kehamilan tidak normal. Durasi kehamilan yang dibatas normal adalah antara 37-42 minggu. Bayi yang belum lahir disebut dengan janin (fetus).

Istilah bayi menurut daerah di Indonesia:

  • Awaw (Dayak Ngaju)
  • Bayi (Jawa)
  • Orok (Sunda)

Tumbuh kembang Bayi

Pertumbuhan bayi merupakan tumbuh kembang dasar yang memiliki pengaruh besar dan menentukan tumbuh kembang manusia selanjutnya. Masa bayi merupakan masa pertumbuhan tubuh dan otak yang sangat pesat dalam pencapaian keoptimalan fungsinya berkembang yang merupakan landasan dalam masa pertumbuhan. Karena itu setiap kelainan dan penyumpangan sekecil apapun, apabila tidak terdeteksi dan tidak ditangani secara baik akan mengurani kualitas sumber daya manusia dikemudian hari.[3]
