Basilika Santo Lorenz (bahasa Jerman: Basilika St. Lorenz) adalah sebuah gereja basilika minor Katolik yang terletak di Kempten, Bavaria, Jerman. Gereja ini dinamai menurut nama martir Laurensius dari Roma. Ini adalah bekas gereja biara Benediktin Biara Kempten.[1] Saat ini digunakan sebagai gereja paroki Katolik St. Lawrence di Keuskupan Augsburg.

Sejarah

Terdapat bukti adanya gereja pertama dari abad kedelapan dan gereja paroki Gotik akhir dengan tiga bagian tengah "St. Lorenz muff Berg" di bukit Basilika St. Lorenz, dibangun di lokasi tersebut pada abad ke-13 tetapi terbakar pada tahun 1478 .[2]

Pada tahun 1632, selama Perang Tiga Puluh Tahun, biara dan gereja dijarah dan dihancurkan oleh orang Swedia dan warga kota kekaisaran Kempten di dekatnya.[2]

Interior gereja

Pangeran-Kepala Biara Roman Giel von Gielsberg menugaskan pembangun utama Michael Beer dari Vorarlberg untuk membangun gereja baru untuk melayani paroki dan biara. Peletakan batu pertama Basilika St. Lawrence dilakukan pada tanggal 13 April 1652.[3] Ini adalah salah satu gereja besar pertama yang dibangun di Jerman setelah berakhirnya Perang Tiga Puluh Tahun.[1] Bangunan ini termasuk tempat tinggal Pangeran-kepala biara.

Bir membangun bagian tengah, lantai dasar menara, dan paduan suara. Ia digantikan oleh Johann Serro pada tanggal 24 Maret 1654. Dermawan Hildegard dari Vinzgau diperingati di salah satu lukisan langit-langit. Nikolausaltar berada di lorong utara. Gereja itu ditahbiskan pada tanggal 12 Mei 1748.

Pada tahun 1803, biara tersebut dibubarkan, dan gereja tersebut menjadi gereja paroki murni.[2]

Pada tahun 1900, menara kembar akhirnya selesai dibangun. Mereka dibangun dari beton, yang lebih berat dari bahan yang digunakan sebelumnya. Retakan pada sambungan ke bangunan induk merupakan akibat dari selesainya menara.

Pada tahun 1969, Paus Paulus VI menganugerahkan gelar kehormatan basilika minor.[4]

Pada bulan Desember dan Januari, Kandang Natal Bründl Baroque dapat disaksikan pada tanggal tertentu di ruang bawah tanah di bawah paduan suara Basilika.[4]
