Axe historique

Axe historique (poros bersejarah) merupakan sebuah jalur penuh monumen, bangunan dan jalan yang membentang dari pusat kota Paris, Prancis, menuju barat. Dikenal juga sebagai "Voie Triomphale" (jalur kemenangan).

Axe historique dimulai dengan pembangunan Champs-Élysées, dirancang pada abad ke-17 untuk membuat jalan ke barat, memperpanjang poros tengah menuju Istana Tuileries. Hari ini Kebun Tuileries (Jardins des Tuileries) masih berdiri, di jalur tengah, meskipun istana itu dibakar selama Komune Paris, 1871.

Antara kebun Tuileries dan Champs Élysées perpanjangan sejumlah bangunan dilakukan di situs Place de la Concorde hingga awal kekuasaan Louis XV, untuknyalah taman itu dinamai. Kemudian poros kebun dibuka melalui sebuah gerbang besar menuju taman kerajaan baru.

Menuju timur, Istana Tuileries menghadap sebuah taman terbuka, Place du Carrousel. Di sana, atas perintah Napoleon, Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel didirikan di tengah istana (dan jalur berporos yang dibangun di belakang istana). Rencana lama untuk menghubungkan pintu masuk "Vieux Louvre," sebagai istana yang tak digunakan dibuat, juga kebun Tuileries, dengan menghancurkan bangunan yang mengganggu, akhirnya dibangun pada awal abad ke-19. Poros lama yang membentang dari halaman depan Louvre ini menjadi apa yang sekarang disebut Axe historique, tetapi Arc du Carrousel di antara keduanya berperan sebagai tempat pergabungan.

Di barat, penyelesaian Arc de Triomphe tahun 1836 di Place de l'Étoile di ujung barat Champs Élysées membentuk titik terjauh dari garis perspektif ini, yang sekarang dimulai di blok tengah Musée du Louvre, melewati Pyramide du Louvre karya I.M. Pei.

Poros ini memanjang kembali ke barat di sepanjang Avenue de la Grande Armée, melewati batas kota Paris menuju La Défense. Sebenarnya merupakan sebauh persimpangan besar, dinamai untuk tugu yang memperingati pertahanan Paris selama Perang Prancis-Prussia.

Pada tahun 1950-an, wilayah di sekitar La Défense direncanakan menjadi sebuah distrik bisnis pusat baru, dan bangunan perkantoran tinggi dibangun di sepanjang jalan itu. Poros itu sendiri memanjang kembali, dengan proyek ambisius untuk ujung barat plaza modern.

Hingga 1980-an, dibawah Presiden François Mitterand, sebuah proyek diluncurkan, dengan Arc de Triomphe modern versi abad ke-20. Ini merupakan karya arsitek Denmark Johann Otto von Spreckelsen, La Grande Arche de la Fraternité (juga dikenal sebagai La Grande Arche dan, L'Arche de la Défense), sebuah monumen menandai ide-ide kemanusiaan daripada kemenangan militer. Jaringan jalur rel dan terowongan jalan raya di bawah plaza La Défense mencegah pilar yang membantu gerbang itu dari perubahan yang menjadikannya searah dengan poros itu: sedikit keluar jalur, seharusnya poros itu diperpanjang ke barat.
