Arthur Israel Vogel FRIC (22 Desember 1905[1] - 1966) adalah seorang kimiawan Inggris yang terkenal dengan buku kimia karangannya.[2][3] Ia menjadi kepala jurusan kimia di Woolwich Polytechnic pada usia 27 tahun.[3][4]

Kehidupan awal

Vogel lahir di London dan bersekolah di Davenant Foundation School di Whitechapel.[3]

Karier akademik

Ia mendapat gelar BSc dari Queen Mary University of London, Vogel meraih gelar MSc dari universitas yang sama di bawah arahan Profesor J. R. Partington.[3] Setelah bekerja sebentar di Universitas Kolese London, dia bekerja di Imperial College dan sekolah penelitian Sir Jocelyn Field Thorpe. Selama di sana, ia menerima gelar DSc atas penelitiannya tentang tegangan permukaan, elektrokimia, sintesis senyawa organik, dan kimia sulfur.[3]

Setelah keluar sebentar dari dunia akademisi dengan terjun ke industri, Vogel bergabung dengan Hartley University College pada tahun 1930 sebagai dosen sains.[3] Dua tahun kemudian, ia bergabung dengan Woolwich Polytechinic sebagai dosen tamu pada usia 27 tahun, di mana ia kemudian diangkat jadi kepala jurusan Kimia. Pada tahun 1940-an, Vogel membentuk Woolwich Polytechnic Chemical Society, suatu lembaga yang mengadakan kuliah dengan ilmuwan terkemuka dunia sebagai pematerinya.[3]

Karya-karyanya telah direvisi dan diterjemahkan dalam berbagai edisi bahasa. Setelah Vogel meninggal, revisi lebih lanjut dibuat oleh berbagai penulis baru. Misalnya, Buku Teks Analisis Kimia Kualitatif dilanjutkan sebagai Buku Teks Analisis Anorganik Kualitatif Makro dan Semimikro dengan edisi baru oleh G. Svehla pada tahun 1979.[8]
