Archosaurus adalah genus reptil Archosauriformes yang sudah punah dari periode Permian Akhir Rusia dan Polandia.[1] Genus ini adalah Archosauriformes paling awal yang diketahui. Spesies tipe dan spesies satu-satunya adalah Archosaurus rossicus, yang diketahui dari beberapa spesimen sisa-sisa yang secara kumulatif mewakili bagian tengkorak dan vertebra serviks.[2][3] Ukuran dewasanya dapat mencapai 3 meter (9,8 ft).[4]

Saat pertama dijelaskan pada tahun 1960, Archosaurus dianggap sebagai archosauria tertua dan kerabat dekat Proterosuchus dari Trias Awal.[2][4] Namun, Archosauria dalam istilah modern dianggap sebagai kelompok yang lebih terbatas di mana "Archosaurus" berada di luar kelompok tersebut. Definisi "klasik" Archosauria digunakan sebelum meluasnya penggunaan kladistika sekarang kira-kira setara dengan klad Archosauriformes.[5] Archosaurus masih dianggap sebagai Archosauriformes tertua yang tak terbantahkan, serta salah satu dari sedikit anggota famili Proterosuchidae yang valid.[6]
