Antônio Parreiras

Antônio Diogo da Silva Parreiras (20 Januari 1860, Niterói - 17 Oktober 1937, Niterói) adalah seorang pelukis, perancang dan ilustrator Brasil.

Biografi

Ia merupakan salah satu dari sembilan bersaudara dan ayahnya adalah seorang pandai emas. Pada 1882, ia masuk ke Academia Imperial de Belas Artes di Rio de Janeiro,[1] namun keluar dua tahun kemudian untuk menghadiri kelas melukis bebas yang diurus oleh artis imigran Jerman Georg Grimm.[2] Pada 1885, ketika Grimm keluar untuk bekerja di pinggiran negara, Parreiras menjadi seorang otodidak.[3] Setahun kemudian, salah satu karyanya dibeli oleh Kaisar Pedro II.

Hal tersebut membuatnya untuk meneruskan pembelajaran formalnya dan datang ke Eropa pada 1888, masuk Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia dimana gurunya adalah Filippo Carcano.[1] Setelah ia kembali ke Brasil dua tahun kemudian, ia berpartisipasi dalam "Exposição Gerais de Belas Artes". Kemudian pada tahun yang sama, ia menjadi Profesor lukisan lanskap di Escola Nacional de Belas Artes (ENBA) dan, setelah menyiapkan contoh karya Grimm, mengenalkan murid-muridnya kepada lukisan plein-air.[3] Setelah tidak sepakat dengan ENBA terkait perubahan dalam kurikulum, ia membuat sekolah miliknya sendiri yang disebut " Escola do Ar Livre".[1]
