Andrei Tupolev Nikolayevich (bahasa Rusia: Андрей Николаевич Туполев, 10 November 1888 – 23 Desember 1972) adalah seorang perintis dan perancang pesawat terbang untuk Uni Soviet.[1]

Keluarga dan pendidikan

Tupolev dilahirkan di desa Pustomazovo (Rusia: Пустомазово), dekat kota Kimry, wilayah Tver, Rusia.[2] Tupolev adalah anak keenam dari tujuh bersaudara.[2] Setelah pertama kali dididik di rumah, ia belajar di Gymnasium di Tver dan lulus pada tahun 1908, kemudian Ia mendaftar kuliah di dua universitas di Rusia dan diterima di keduanya: Sekolah Imperial Moscow Technical (IMTU Rusia: ИМТУ) dan Institute of Railway Engineers.[2]

Karier

Dia adalah orang yang memiliki pengaruh tinggi di negaranya dan menjadi cendekiawan di beberapa lembaga seperti Akademi Ilmu Pengetahuan Rusia (1953), Kolonel Jenderal (1968), dan tiga kali sebagai Pahlawan Buruh Sosialis (1945, 1957, 1972).[2]

Selama kariernya, ia merancang dan mengawasi desain lebih dari 100 jenis pesawat terbang. Beberapa pesawat terbang rancangannya memperoleh sekitar 78 rekor dunia.[2] Dalam pengakuan atas karyanya, ia diangkat menjadi anggota kehormatan di Royal Aeronautical Society dari Inggris dan American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.[3]
