Amadou Bamba

Amadou Bamba (bahasa Wolof: Aamadu Bamba Mbàkke, bahasa Arab: أحمد بن محمد بن حبيب الله Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥabīb Allāh, 1850–1927),^[1] juga dikenal dengan julukan Khādimu 'r-Rasūl (خادِم الرسول) atau "Hamba Rasulullah" dan Sëriñ Tuubaa atau "Sheikh Tuubaa", adalah seorang sufi yang sangat terkenal di Senegal. Ia juga seorang yang dihormati dan pendiri dari persaudaraan Mauride atau tarekat Mauridiyah. Ia dikisahkan menerima petunjuk dari Allah SWT dalam bentuk cahaya di bawah sebuah pohon di daerah ini pada tahun 1887. Dulunya tempat ini sangat terpencil di rimba belantara.

Kepopuleran Syekh Amadou membuat banyak orang mengunjunginya. Hal ini membuat pemerintahan Prancis yang waktu itu berkuasa di tempat ini cemas, sehingga sang syekh ditangkap dan dibuang ke Gabon (1895-1902) dan Mauritania (1903-1907). Strategi ini tidak berhasil, penahanan Syekh Amadou justru membuat para pengikutnya menjadi kian memujanya.

Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba memimpin perlawanan damai terhadap kekaisaran kolonial Prancis, tidak seperti perjuangan fisik yang dilancarkan oleh marabout-marabout Tijaniyyah. Ia juga telah menulis berbagai puisi dan risalah mengenai meditasi, ritual, kerja dan Al-Quran.
