Karir balap motor

Puig menjalani tahun terbaiknya di 1994, saat ia finis di posisi kelima di kelas 500 cc.[1] Pada 1995, Puig menjadi pesaing Spanyol pertama yang memenangkan Grand Prix 500 cc negara asalnya saat ia memenangkan Grand Prix Spanyol 1995.[2] Dia kemudian mencetak dua hasil podium lagi untuk menempatkan dirinya di posisi ketiga di kejuaraan dunia, sebelum dia mengalami kecelakaan parah saat latihan untuk Grand Prix Prancis 1995 dan kaki kirinya patah, mengakhiri musimnya sebelum waktunya.[3] Dia kembali di 1996 tetapi cederanya menghambat kemajuannya dan dia memutuskan untuk pensiun pada akhir musim 1997 pada usia 30 tahun.[2]
