Akrostik adalah sebuah bait (atau bentuk penulisan lain) di mana huruf pertama (atau silabel, atau kata) dari setiap baru (atau paragraf, atau unsur lain dalam teks tersebut) menampilkan sebuah kata, pesan, atau abjad.[1] Kata tersebut berasal dari kata Prancis acrostiche dari kata Latin pasca-klasik acrostichis, dari kata Yunani Koine ἀκροστιχίς, dari kata Yunani kuno ἄκρος dan στίχος "verse".[2]

Contoh

Akrostik terkenal yang dibuat dalam bahasa Yunani adalah sebutan Yesus Kristus, Allah Putera, Juruselamat. Inisialnya terbaca ΙΧΘΥΣ (ICHTHYS), yang artinya ikan: 

Ιησούς    I  esous   Yesus
Χριστός   CH ristos  Kristus
Θεού      TH eou     Allah
Υἱός      Y  ios     Putera
Σωτήρ     S  oter    Juruselamat
