Akmal Taher (lahir 27 Juli 1955) adalah seorang dokter ahli bedah asal Indonesia. Ia pernah menjabat sebagai direktur utama Rumah Sakit Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo, Jakarta dan Ketua Ikatan Ahli Urologi Indonesia. Akmal merupakan pemilik hak paten use of inhibitor of phosphodiesterase IV di Jerman, Amerika Serikat, Kanada, dan Jepang.
Pada Februari 2013, Akmal diangkat menjadi Dirjen Bina Upaya Kesehatan Kementerian Kesehatan Indonesia oleh Menteri Kesehatan Nafsiah Mboi.[1]
Akmal Taher lahir dari pasangan Taher dan Rosnalia yang berasal dari Koto Gadang, Kabupaten Agam, Sumatera Barat.[2] Ia menyelesaikan pendidikan menengahnya di Kolese Kanisius, Jakarta. Kemudian ia melanjutkan pendidikan dokter umum di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia, dan lulus sebagai Urolog pada tahun 1988.
Akmal menjadi research fellow di Hannover Medical School and Institute for Peptide Research, Hannover, Jerman (1990-1992). Gelar Doktor Medikus dan PhD diraihnya dari institusi tersebut pada tahun 1993, serta gelar Doktor diperoleh dari FKUI pada tahun yang sama.
Pada tahun 2004 ia memperoleh penghargaan Satyalancana Karya Satya 20 tahun. Dua tahun kemudian ia dikukuhkan sebagai guru besar Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia.[3]
