Air Terjun Nil Biru

Air Terjun Nil Biru adalah sebuah air terjun yang berada di sungai Nil Biru, Etiopia. Air terjun ini dikenal sebagai Tis Abay dalam bahasa Amharik, yang berarti "asap besar". Air terjun ini berada di hulu sungai, sekitar 30 kilometer (19 mi) ke hilir dari kota Bahir Dar dan Danau Tana. Air terjun Nil Biru merupakan salah satu objek wisata paling terkenal di Ethiopia.

Air terjun ini memiliki tinggi 42 meter ([convert: unit tak dikenal]) ,[1] terdiri dari empat aliran yang berubah-ubah debit airnya, dari tetesan air kecil di musim kemarau hingga melebar lebih dari 400 meter saat musim hujan. Regulasi di Danau Tana sekarang sedikit mengurangi fluktuasi debit air terjun, dan sejak tahun 2003 sebuah pembangkit listrik tenaga air telah mengambil banyak aliran keluar dari air terjun kecuali selama musim hujan.[2] Air Terjun Nil Biru mengisolasi ekologi Danau Tana dari ekologi Sungai Nil lainnya, dan isolasi ini berperan dalam evolusi fauna endemik danau.[3]

Tidak jauh ke hilir dari air terjun terdapat jembatan batu pertama yang dibangun di Etiopia. Jembatan ini dibangun atas perintah Kaisar Susenyos pada tahun 1626. Menurut Manuel de Almeida, batu untuk membuat kapur telah ditemukan di dekat anak sungai Alata, dan seorang pengrajin yang telah datang dari India dengan Afonso Mendes, Patriark Ortodoks Ethiopia, untuk mengawasi pembangunannya.[4]
