Adib Bin Hassan Al-Shishakli (bahasa Arab: أديب بن حسن الشيشكلي, 1909 - 27 September 1964) adalah seorang pemimpin militer yang kemudian menjadi presiden di Siria pada tahun 1953 sampai 1954.[1] Ia adalah seorang kolonel.[1] Usahanya membebaskan Siria dari kekuasaan Prancis berhasil.[1] Pada Desember 1949 ketika terjadi perebutan kekuasaan, tampuk pemerintahan jatuh ke tangan Parta Rakyat (Shaab), ia sementara menjadi kepala negara, dan sesudah Jenderal Fawzi Silo menjadi presiden dan perdana menteri, ia ia bertindak sebagai diktator di belakang layar.[1] Pada tahun 1953 sebagai calon tungga, Shishakli terpilih menjadi presiden.[1] Saat itulah ia ingin menjadikan Siria Raya, berisi gabungan negara-negara Arab.[1] Orang barat dan Inggris menaruh curiga kepada cita-cita tersebut.[1] Pada tahun 1954 Kolonel Mistafa Hamdun melancarkan pemberontakan di Aleppo yang segera menjalar ke daerah lain.[1] Shishakli kalah dan melarikan diri ke Libanon.[1]

Riwayat Hidup Ringkas

Adib Shishakli berkebangsaan Kurdi, Arab Siria, lahir di Hama pada tahun 1909.[2] Shishakli menjadi tentara Prancis selama era kekuasaan Prancis.[2] Dia belajar di Akademi Militer Damaskus (yang di kemudian hari dipindahkan ke Homs) dan menjadi anggota Partai Sosial Nasional Siria(SSNP) di Antun Saadeh, mempromosikan sebuah konsep Siria Raya.[2] Saudaranya, Salah juga seorang anggota penting partai itu.[2] Setelah merdeka, Shishakli melanjutkan perjuangannya dengan menjadi seorang relawan dengan bergabung dengan tentara Arab, yaitu tentara pembebasan Arab (Arab Liberation Army), pada tahun 1948, ketika terjadi perang Arab melawan Israel.[2]
