Absinthe

Absinthe atau absinth adalah minuman beralkohol yang diberi perisa adas atau anise dan dibuat dari Artemisia absinthium atau wormwood.^[1] Minuman ini dibuat dengan mendistilasi alkohol dengan daun-daunan seperti adas, fennel, apsintus, ketumbar, daun dittany, hisop, arar, dan pala.^[1] .^[2] Absinthe pertama kali dibuat pada 1792 oleh Pierre Ordinaire yaitu seorang dokter Prancis yang tinggal di Swiss.^[3] Pada awalnya, tujuan ia membuat minuman ini adalah sebagi obat karena apsintus dikenal dapat menyembuhkan penyakit.^[3] Kandungan alkohol pada absinthe mencapai 68%.^[1] Karena kandungan alkoholnya yang tinggi dan telah menyebabkan efek yang berbahaya bagi peminumnya maka absinthe pernah dilarang di banyak negara selama beberapa tahun.^[1] Karena dilarang maka banyak orang yang mencoba membuat absinthe sendiri.^[1] Hal tersebut bahkan lebih berbahaya karena pembuatan absinthe yang tidak hati-hati dapat menyebabkan kematian bagi siapa pun yang meminumnya sebab penggunaan apsintus yang terlalu banyak dapat mengandung racun.^[1] Saat ini, absinthe sudah tidak lagi dilarang untuk dikonsumsi.^[1]
