1 Timotius 5 (disingkat 1Tim 5) adalah bagian dari Surat Paulus yang Pertama kepada Timotius dalam Perjanjian Baru di Alkitab Kristen.[1][2] Digubah oleh rasul Paulus[3] dan ditujukan kepada Timotius.[4]

Ayat 9

Yang didaftarkan sebagai janda, hanyalah mereka yang tidak kurang dari enam puluh tahun, yang hanya satu kali bersuami[5]

Rupanya gereja di Efesus mempunyai daftar yang resmi dari janda-janda yang berhak memperoleh sokongan material dari gereja (lihat Ulangan 24:17). Di zaman Perjanjian Baru gereja memberikan bantuan semacam itu karena tidak ada bantuan atau uang pensiun dari pemerintah untuk janda yang tidak ada keluarga atau anak untuk menolong mereka. Janda dituntut untuk menunjukkan kemampuan rohani tertentu (1 Timotius 5:9–10), termasuk ketekunan dalam melakukan perbuatan baik (1 Timotius 5:10) dan doa (1 Timotius 5:5).[6]

Ayat 18

Bukankah Kitab Suci berkata: "Janganlah engkau memberangus mulut lembu yang sedang mengirik," dan lagi "seorang pekerja patut mendapat upahnya."[7]

Paulus mengutip ayat yang pertama dari Kitab Taurat (Perjanjian Lama), yaitu dari Kitab Ulangan 25:4, yang juga dikutipnya dalam Surat 1 Korintus 9:7–9. Ayat yang kedua dikutipnya dari perkataan Yesus Kristus yang tercatat dalam Injil Matius (Matius 10:10) dan Injil Lukas (Lukas 10:7), yang dianggap sebagai "Kitab Suci" oleh Paulus. Ayat-ayat ini berbicara tentang kehormatan yang layak diterima oleh para penatua yaitu penilik yang memimpin dengan baik dan mengawasi jiwa-jiwa orang percaya. Mereka yang bekerja keras berkhotbah dan mengajar (bandingkan 1 Korintus 15:10; 1 Tesalonika 5:12–13) harus menerima kehormatan dua kali lipat. Yang dimaksudkan ialah:
