Asal-muasal ligatur ß.

ß – juga disebut sebagai Eszett, Scharfes S, Straßen-S, Buckel-S, Ringel-S, Rucksack-S atau Dreierles-S ialah sebuah huruf ligatur yang dipakai dalam penulisan bahasa Jerman, kecuali di Swiss.[1]

Huruf ini melambangkan bunyi /s/ atau dalam tulisan "ss" atau "sz". Jika huruf ini tidak ada maka huruf "s" yang ditulis dua kali boleh dipakai pula.

Baru sejak tahun 2006 huruf kapital untuk eszett "diresmikan". Walaupun eszett tidak pernah berada di awal kata, penulisan judul dengan huruf kapital semua membuat beberapa pihak menginginkan adanya bentuk kapital ini.
